They've Come for Brains

by darkewolf
You'll give them bullets.

On the eve of the Lepzig Games Convention SEGA has announced a new game in the House of the Dead series for Wii. This is great news for fans of zombies and light-gun games. The trailer below is pure Grindhouse flavor, it's too bad we have to wait until 2009 for the game.

Best quote ever!

IGN: This game is looking great. Any final words for Wii fans looking forward to it?

Neil: There’s a lot of Wii fans worried about the decline of decent hardcore games on the system. No, guys — we’re not making a 30 hour-plus RPG here, but we are making something you are going to have a complete blast playing. We are making it with a nod to one of the greatest arcade series of all time and we hope you’ll just purely enjoy teaming up with buddies and posting those high scores on the forums with the rest of us...It’ll beat the sh*t out of grooming a horse.

Home Sweet New Home

by darkewolf
The old server in the office is annoying, noisy and while I haven't done any actual tests, a power hungry beast. It's more the noise than anything that annoys me (and Ray). Back in April I tried unsucessfully to move all the sites over to the old Mac mini that's been hanging around doing nothing. It's the perfect machine for the job, reasonably powerful (enough for apache/php/MySQL anyway) and absolutely silent. I failed miserably at getting everything running then and put it all away for another day.

Today was the day I guess. Thanks to this great tutorial and some back-end work in the site code, I managed to get it all working. Needless to say I'm pretty impressed with myself about the whole thing.

So, all that being said, some things on the site might be broken. I haven't checked everything yet. Please kindly report anything you see and I'll try to patch it up ASAP. (Ohhh, that rhymes)

I also scored some bonus points for getting the new NTFS formatted 500 MB external drive to connect to the mac with MacFUSE and share on the network for the Windows machines to use.

This chocolate peanut butter cake from Smitten Kitchen would be a great way to celebrate!

The Video Game Crash of 1983

This guy is pretty good, as in not too annoying to listen too. I still can't believe the word "historian" is being used in conjunction with the Video Game industry but Space Invaders recently celebrated it's 30th anniversary, so I guess there's some history there. Anyway if you are interested it's worth a watch, and The Youtube page for this video has links to other VG Historian videos too.

Oktapodi - Check out this great CGI animated short where an octopus tries to save it's love from a trip to the local seafood restaurant. Octopus car chase ensues. Film at the link. Great style and wonderful animation. (via Drawn!)

Don't miss the making of video either if you are into that sort of thing like me.

More student projects from Gobelins, l'ecole de l'image (french).
